What really has value to me is a day spent outdoors together with my son. It was a spontaneous decision to go metal detecting together in the fields, and I can say that such moments make us really happy))… And yes, it was cool!
We did not expect to find something extraordinary as we had already scanned this area thoroughly last year…
We saw a skein of geese… Well, at least they were something interesting to look at, since there still were no finds and the weather was so dull… The geese were flying high above poplars, they were so far but they gaggled so loudly as if they had been very close… I counted – there were 13 of them… Damn! What an unlucky day… I decided to smoke a cigarette…
One of my shovels still had no handle, so I had to take another one from the garage, and it was not the best one…
It looked like those 13 geese were flying around in a circle, or maybe I became too supersticious? I thought to myself, “Yep, the weather is gloomy.., we haven’t found anything but who cares? Life is good anyway!” And guys, believe it or not, this thought changed everything – the sun came out, and my metal detector emitted a good signal – that was a Czarist-era seal…
My son found a 50-groszy coin somewhere in the weeds…, which sounded like iron…, what a strange alloy…, an interesting coin though…, how it happened to be there…?
There came a clear and sonorous signal … but damn, it was so deep that I wanted to stop digging…
I found this thing very close to the previous one. Maybe they had belonged to the same person…
Oh, and that thing had been from a completely different era… It gave a lift to my mood, even though it wasn’t something special… I need so little to make myself happy…
And in ten meters there came a ferrous signal turning into a non-ferrous one, or no, it was sooner a ferrous signal anyway… That was the first fibula brooch that I found in good condition… And even in the air it sounded like iron despite the fact that it was bronze… Strange…
I found an interesting Christian cross, it was obviously handmade, with flowers instead of crucifixion… I think that was a good find.
We also found some other things but it was getting darker, and I did not want to take any more pictures as my gloves were dirty, and the phone case, too… My son picked up a few more coins, and I found a 2-kopeck coin dated 1926 and a Ukrainian 2-kopeck coin. I always feel confused when I find a Ukrainian 2-kopeck coin as its size and first look in the ground remind very much a denarius coin…
Well, to cut a long story short, we did not find anything special that day but I can tell you guys that a day spent outdoors together with children is really something valuable!!!
Thank you all and good luck to everyone!!!
While searching the author used a Garrett ACE 250 metal detector with Mars Goliath coil.
